Why this route restores

Central Park is Olmsted's cathedral to civic restoration — every rise, curve, and grove was designed to hold the mind of a working city. Since the loop closed to cars, its 9.7 km are a continuous quiet room.

Presence notes

Start at Columbus Circle, follow the West Drive up past Strawberry Fields and the Great Lawn, crest the Harlem Meer at 110th, and return down the East Drive past the Reservoir and the Bethesda Terrace.
