The village Montmartre — Vignes, Château d'Eau, and back stairs the crowds never find.
Montmartre only feels overwhelmed if you take the front stairs. The back lanes — Vignes, Saules, Cortot — hold the village that has always been here: cobble, ivy, and the odd cat. The climb is real but honest, and the view earned this way is quiet.
Skip the funicular. Start at Abbesses, take rue Ravignan up past Bateau-Lavoir, and curve west to the vineyard on rue des Saules. The back stairs of rue Saint-Rustique are the loop's still corner. Approach Sacré-Cœur from the east terrace, not the front steps.

Old stones and long memory hold the route — architecture, gardens, sacred edges.
Gentle overall; a short section may ask a little more of you.
A real climb — the horizon opens as a reward. Take it slowly.
