Why this route restores

Lake Merced is the city's calmest full circuit. The lake is broad, the path is completely level, and the surrounding golf courses and cypress belts keep the traffic sound out. On a foggy morning it feels like walking a wide bay.

Presence notes

Start at the boathouse and walk clockwise. The full loop is seven kilometres of continuous level path with the water always on your right. The south-west corner near the SFSU edge is the loop's quietest stretch — take a full breath before turning north for home.
